The post-fight press conference that took
place immediately after last night’s Strikeforce main event at the HP Pavilion
in San Jose, California had a strange vibe to it. Everyone there knew that
they had just witnessed something very surprising. The fighter widely
considered to be the best pound-for-pound MMA fighter in the world, Fedor “The
Last Emperor” Emelianenko (31-2), had just lost. Not only that, he had tapped
out at just 1:09 of the first round. His opponent, Fabricio Werdum (14-4-1),
was able to secure a triangle choke with an armbar that forced Fedor to
submit. To put it into perspective, Fedor landed just 5 out of 12 strikes in
the match while Werdum did not have a chance to land any strikes of any sort.

By Barbara Mason of Bay Area
Sports Drive Magazine Sunday evening the San Jose Sharks took on the Detroit Red Wings in Game Two of the Western semi-final round. The Sharks came out focused blasting puck after puck at Red Wing goalie Jimmy Howard yet it was Detroit that was first up on the scoreboard to take the early lead 1-0. That unassisted goal came at 6:51 courtesy of #13 Pavel Datsyuk for his 6th goal of the season. San Jose was clearly controlling the game, intercepting the puck time after time but was unable to get one past Howard. It was the Sharks second power play that tied up the game at one, off the stick of the amazing #8 Joe Pavelski. He was assisted by #15 Dany Heatley and #12 Patrick Marleau. San Jose was just getting things in gear when less than two minutes later #29 Ryane Clowe sent his 2nd goal of the playoffs careening past Howard assisted by #8 Joe Pavelski and #3 Doug Murray..... Sharks Overcome In Game Six to Win Series
By Barbara Mason of Bay Area Sports Drive
Magazine The first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs was a hard fought series for the San Jose Sharks. The eighth seed Colorado Avalanche gave San Jose all they could handle and more. The Sharks carried the theme that Head Coach Todd McLellan had emphasized from the very beginning. The team overcame more than their fair share of challenging situations to find themselves headed to the next round of the playoffs as they got past Colorado 5-2 in game six. "I think the few overtimes that we won; they had chances point blank and Nabby made the big saves. He got stronger as the series went on which was good,” said Joe Pavelski of his goaltender. “It was good for the team. We had his back, he had our back throughout the series and we were successful,” he said..... Click here for the entire article.
Nabokov Earns
Shutout-Sharks Lead Series 3-2
By Barbara Mason of Bay Area Sports Drive
Magazine
Now that
we have all digested more than our share of blood pressure medication,
it’s time to start all over again as Game 5 got underway Thursday
evening at HP Pavilion. The San Jose Sharks have gone into 3 overtimes
in their four playoff games against the Colorado Avalanche with some
of the craziest outcomes ever seen in the playoffs. With the series
tied at 2 apiece, San Jose appears to have settled in and seems to be
wearing Colorado down. These young upstarts cannot be counted out
however. The Avalanche are hungry and that’s easy to see. Their
goalie Craig Anderson continues to make miraculous save after save.
Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov has also been right on top of his game
with some super saves. The Sharks continues to
outshoot Colorado by a wide margin and now need to
get more men in front to mask the direction of those
pucks. Anderson has been able to read way too
many which accounts for a lot of those saves..... Oakland Looks To The 2010 Season NFL Draft
By Barbara Mason of Bay Area Sports Drive
Magazine It’s anybody’s guess what this year’s NFL draft holds for the Oakland Raiders. It’s been a tough stretch for the team with their recent acquisitions just not holding up their end of the deal. JaMarcus Russell, Darren McFadden and most recently Darrius Heyward-Bey did not live up to their expectations whether it was due to injury or a blatant disregard for the discipline that is crucial in this league. While a lot of blame has been placed on the organization there is plenty of blame to go around in the locker room as well. It is up to each player to put out 110% as well as display unparalleled discipline and work ethic. It’s extremely difficult to coach players with lousy work ethic. Oakland has been in rebuilding mode for too long and the foundation is still not in place...Click here for the entire article.
The Colorado Avalanche didn’t waste anytime as Game 2 against the San Jose Sharks got underway at HP Pavilion Friday night. Within the first two minutes the Avalanche were up on the board taking the early 1-0 lead courtesy of #10 Kyle Cumiskey. It was his first goal of the post-season. With less than one minute left in the first period, the Sharks scored a power play goal off the stick of #27 Manny Malhotra for his first goal of the playoffs to tie up the game. He was assisted by #22 Dan Boyle, his first assist of the playoffs as well. San Jose had been blasting the puck at Avalanche goalie Craig Anderson and finally got one past him for the score. San Jose had 19 shots on goal to Colorado’s 6 in the opening period yet seemed to struggle for a part of the period. It was towards the end of the period that the Sharks really got in sync. Going into the locker room with the late score was exactly what the Black and Teal needed; a real confidence boost to start the second period. Click here for the entire article.

By Larry Garcia and Al Reyes of Bay Area Sports Drive
Magazine The Raiderette finals will be held on Sunday April 18. Be sure to check this site and Raiders.com to see the new 2010 Raiderette squad.
The regular season is
over for the San Jose Sharks. There has been
talk about how San Jose should have finished in
order to play an “easier” team as the playoffs get
underway. The bottom line is that this is the
pre-season and there is no such thing as an easy
team. None of these guys can be overlooked or
discounted.
