President and General Manager Doug Wilson and Head Coach
Todd McLellan announced today that Trent Yawney, Todd Richards
and Jay Woodcroft will serve asassistant coaches on
McLellan’s staff. In addition, Corey Schwab has been named as
the organization’s goaltending development coach. In keeping with club
policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

SHARKS RE-SIGN LEFT WING RILEY
ARMSTRONG
SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President
and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that
the club has re-signed Group II restricted free
agent left wing Riley Armstrong to a one-year
contract. In keeping with club policy, financial
terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In 2007-08, Armstrong, 23, finished tied for sixth on the Worcester
Sharks, the top American Hockey League development
affiliate of the San Jose Sharks with 34 points (15
goals, 19 assists) and 91 penalty minutes (fourth on
the team) in 64 games.
The five-foot-eleven, 190-pound Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan native was originally signed by San
Jose as a free agent on Sept. 15, 2004.

SIGN GOALTENDER TYSON SEXSMITH
SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President
and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that
the club has signed goaltender Tyson Sexsmith to a
three-year NHL entry level contract. In
keeping with club policy, financial terms of the
deal were not disclosed.
Sexsmith has
spent the last three seasons with the Vancouver
Giants in the Western Hockey League. This past
season, the 19-year-old ranked first in the WHL in
goals-against-average (1.89), shutouts (nine) and
second overall in wins with 43, while playing a
league-high 3678 minutes. Sexsmith was 7-0-1-1 in
his first nine starts and finished the season with a
43-11-6 record in 62 games. Sexsmith's 2007-08
campaign garnered him WHL Second Team All-Star
honors and a tryout with the Canadian Junior
National Team for the 2008 World Junior
Championships.
For the third
straight season, Sexsmith and the Giants found
themselves in the WHL playoffs in 2007-08. Sexsmith
carried over his stellar regular season play into
the postseason, where he recorded a 6-4-0 record
with a 1.82 GAA in ten games. The effort was not
enough however as the Giants fell to the eventual
2008 Memorial Cup Champions, the Spokane Chiefs.
In 2006-07,
Sexsmith helped Vancouver capture their first ever
Memorial Cup, while going 31-12-2-6 with a league
low 1.79 GAA during the regular season. He also
finished second in the league in shutouts with 10
before carrying the Giants in the postseason with a
14-3-4 record in the WHL playoffs, adding four more
shutouts and just 40 goals against in 22 games.
The 6-foot,
204-pound native of Calgary, Alberta was selected by
San Jose in the third round (91st overall) of the
2007 NHL Entry Draft.
